Ambassador Stefano Sannino

From July 2nd  2013 Stefano Sannino is the Italian Permanent Representative to the European Union in Brussels.

Ambassador Sannino served for a long time at the European Commission in Brussels.

He was member of the Cabinet of the President of the Commission (2002-2004) and soon after he joined the Directorate General for External Relations as Director for Management of Crisis and as Representative to the PSC (2004-2006). He then became Director for Latin America (2008-2009) and Deputy Director General for Asia and Latin America (2009-2010).

In 2010 he moved to the Directorate General for Enlargement first as Deputy Director General and then as Director General, until June 2013.

From 2006 to 2008 he was Diplomatic Adviser to the Italian Prime Minister and his Personal Representative for the G8 Summits.

Formerly he was also Ambassador Head of Mission for the OSCE in Belgrade 2001-2002.  Within the Italian Diplomatic Service he has been, among other things, Deputy Head of Mission at the Italian Embassy in Belgrade (1994-1996), Head of Office of the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs (1996-1998), Diplomatic Adviser and Chief of Staff to the Italian Minister for Foreign Trade (1998-2001).

Ambassador Stefano Sannino speaks fluently English, French and Spanish.
